Each sealing ring has two cutting edges that fit into the guide grooves in the inner ring of the bearing. The outer lip prevents dirt from penetrating, while the inner one keeps Vaseline in the bearing. During operation, this system is practically waterproof, Vaseline in the inner groovering creates a watertight barrier.
